On so many of our roads it is a common site to see a dead badger. When new roads are constructed (or widened) the badger consultants role is to identify where badgers cross the roads so that badger tunnels or green bridges may be provided.
So often people ask, "Why spend all that extra money on badgers and mitigation?" The answer is twofold: firstly why shouldn't we look after and care for wildlife and secondly the cost of accidents caused by willife far exceeds the cost of providing the mitigation.
And both these ignore the potential loss of human life that can occur! |
